Humanity’s Need
of Salvation
Romans 3:9-4:3
9
What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before
proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; 10 As it
is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none
that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They
are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is
none that doeth good, no, not one. 13 Their throat is an open
sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is
under their lips: 14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and
bitterness: 15 Their feet are swift to shed blood: 16
Destruction and misery are in their ways: 17 And the way of
peace have they not known: 18 There is no fear of God before their
eyes.
19
Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are
under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become
guilty before God. 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall
no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of
sin. 21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is
manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 Even the
righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon
all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23 For all have
sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified
freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood,
to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through
the forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this time
his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which
believeth in Jesus. 27 Where is boasting then? It is
excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 28
Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the
law. 29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also
of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: 30 Seeing it is
one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision
through faith. 31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God
forbid: yea, we establish the law.
1
What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh,
hath found? 2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof
to glory; but not before God. 3 For what saith the scripture?
Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
1 Corinthians 15:1-26
1
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you,
which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also
ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have
believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which
I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day
according to the scriptures: 5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then
of the twelve: 6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred
brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some
are fallen asleep. 7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all
the apostles. 8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one
born out of due time. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am
not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10
But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed
upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not
I, but the grace of God which was with me. 11 Therefore whether it
were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.
12
Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you
that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there be no
resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 14 And if Christ
be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also
vain. 15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we
have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be
that the dead rise not. 16 For if the dead rise not, then is not
Christ raised: 17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is
vain; ye are yet in your sins. 18 Then they also which are fallen
asleep in Christ are perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope
in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
20
But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of
them that slept. 21 For since by man came death, by man came
also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even
so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own
order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming. 24
Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God,
even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and
power. 25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his
feet. 26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is
death.[1]
