About the Site

   Newarkupc.org/youth is the website of the Youth Ministry of Newark United Pentecostal Church. Youth is a department of Children and Youth Ministries which is directed by Regina Beardsley [bio].  The latest (second) version was designed by Ben Cohen, Webmaster.  Additional support was provided by Nick Cohen, Webmaster Emeritus.

Hard and Software

   This site was created in Microsoft Windows 98 (second edition) utilizing Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft FrontPage and an 800x600 display.  It has been verified in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 (win), Netscape Communicator 4.5 (win), Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 (mac) and Netscape Communicator 4.7 (mac).  For best results, set browser background color to white (R:255 G:255 B:255).  We appreciate your feedback.  Please send questions, comments and concerns to the webmaster:

On the Index

   There are currently 43 rotating photos on the index.  Most photos were shot by Ben Cohen with a Sony Mavica CD1000 as 1600x1200, low compression JPEGs (Joint Photographic Experts Group).  Said photos were edited in Photoshop and saved as TIFFs (Tagged Image File Format).  The photos were resized to fit the window (best viewed at 800x600) and saved as JPEGs at 60 quality.  The average image size is 44.5 Kilobytes (356.3 Kilobits).  

About the Chosen

   Our youth group (The Chosen) meets weekly on Wednesday evenings during Education Night in the Newark UPC Teen Center [photo] for Teen Teaching. Teen Teaching consists of a time for food & fellowship followed by teaching in break-out sessions of Middle School and High School.

Purpose Statement

   The purpose of The Chosen is to develop personal relationships with God, to grow in understanding and acceptance of ourselves, and to encourage others in these same pursuits. 

Code of Ethics

• I will develop through Faith a relationship with God based on His Word and Spirit.

• I will listen attentively to all teaching and preaching at Newark United Pentecostal Church.

• I will seek to understand myself and accept who I am as God made me.

• I will seek to understand other and accept who they are as God made them.

• I will be active and supportive in the purpose of the Church to evangelize the world.

• I understand that I am chosen and therefore separate and different from the world.

• I will always treat others with respect and dignity. When I fail, I will apologize.

• I will avoid all improper physical contact with other people, whether combative or sexual.

• I will be friendly to everyone, whether I know them or not.

• If a visitor is feeling uncomfortable, I will help them.

• I will care for the members of The Chosen.

• I will show respect to all authority -- parental, spiritual, and civil. All adults will be treated with respect, whether they deserve it or not.

• I will obey my parents, pastor, and youth leaders.

• I will participate in all youth activities, whether I like them or not. I will learn to cooperate.

• If I have a problem, I will talk to my youth leaders. They are my friends and can help me solve problems.

• I will be an example and leader of The Chosen.
