The Walk-a-Thon has been held annually since its inception in 1981.  It began as a 20 kilometer trek from Newark UPC to Iron Hill Park on Old Baltimore Pike.  Several years later it dropped down to a mere 10 miles from the Beardsleys' House in Chapel Hill to Dee Neidlein's house on Benge Road.  Slowly but surely, the distance has crept down to a piddling 5 mile hike along the road in Nottingham, PA where the church picnic is held every summer.  Members of the Chosen, and anyone else who wishes to walk, collect sponsors anywhere from members of the church to neighbors to work associates and parents.  The Walk-a-Thon consistently raises over $3000 per year which is allocated to the youth fund.
